Clean Green Courtesy of an OR Nurse
As promised in my preface, my blog page is where you’ll get to know more about me. Yes, I’m passionate about making a house a home! I’m also a Registered Nurse of 25 years, working in surgery. Suffice it to say, I understand the importance of clean! Due to the nature of my profession, I’m not here to tell you that harsh chemical cleaners have no place in our lives. They do. Heaven knows, I’ll be the first one wiping down light switches, doorknobs, remotes, and bathrooms with one when Covid or Flu are running rampant. Antimicrobial/antiviral products have their place. In addition to destroying all those nasty little bugs, they inhibit regrowth for a duration of time. This is exactly why they are used in operating rooms and other clinical settings throughout the world. However, many of these products contain carcinogens and other harmful ingredients. Overuse of these chemicals can lead to a host of undesirable outcomes and can destroy some of the normal flora our bodies use to fight infection. I do want to reinforce that occasionally upping your cleaning game is highly unlikely to cause any long-term harm. If the norovirus, or some other dreadful invader finds its way into your home, bust out the heavy ammo!
Maintaining a clean, uncluttered, aesthetically pleasing interior is a priority in my life. It allows me to unwind and truly enjoy the time I spend indoors with myself and my family. It also makes my daily clean up routine far more manageable. I choose to use environmentally friendly products for simple daily cleaning. They are safer for us, our children, and our pets. The biodegradable packaging reduces our carbon footprint, which is crucial for our planet. Eco friendly cleaning products are becoming widely available. I like to purchase from Grove Collaborative. They offer fast, convenient shipping, and a large selection of products for cleaning, for food storage and pantries, as well as personal and pet care. Allow me to tell you about some of my favorites and why I love them!
Since I firmly believe the first step in keeping a neat home is elimination of clutter, let’s begin with mindfully taking out the garbage. Grove offers 100% Recycled Plastic Trash Bags for doing just that. Sustainability is where it’s at, so reusable cleaning products get an A+ from me. Grove’s Microfiber Cleaning Clothes are perfect for cleaning and polishing furniture, granite, quartz, and glass. Lint free and machine washable, I always keep a number of these on hand. If you’re new to cleaning green, Grove offers a Multi-Purpose Cleaner Set- Traditions Aglow, which comes with 3 microfiber clothes, 1 reusable Glass Spray Bottle, and 1 Multi-Purpose Cleaner (containing 2 concentrates). I would recommend giving this set a try for the value. Mrs.Meyer’s concentrates are also available from Grove. I’m a big fan of their seasonal fragrance options! Anything that makes cleaning more fun is a win for me. The Glass Spray Bottle Snap and Slide! I can’t say enough about these. Not only are they nice to look at in my cleaning caddy, but they are also plastic free. These come in a variety of fun colors and the snap and slide option allows you to label what’s in your bottle. Honestly, the list goes on…Grove offers a reusable, eco-friendly product for all your cleaning needs. From machine washable Microfiber Mop Pads, and washable Dusters, to environmentally friendly sponges and detergents. If the concept of greener cleaning appeals to you, I strongly encourage you to give this brand a try!
Obviously, I love Grove for so many reasons. I’ve been a customer for many years. Shipping is fast, discounted for members, and often free. Customer service is excellent, and the free samples are great! What appeals to me most is the sustainability of the products. Working in healthcare, I cannot turn a blind eye to the amount of waste we generate every day. Nor can I help but contemplate what the implications of this are for future generations. It is the responsibility of us all to preserve the Earth and do what we can for our children. Collectively, it’s the little things that add up!
